Bastards

This is coolbert:

"you bastards, you left us here to die. The least you could have done is sent us ammunition so that we could die fighting as men." - - 1956 - - as heard by French radio monitors in Indo-China.

That French voice heard on the radio was a member of GCMA. Frenchmen organizing, training, leading into battle hill tribesmen opposed to the Viet Minh.

French troops and their irregular forces who could not be extracted from the remote areas of Indo-China, even when a cease fire accord and a negotiated settlement to the First Indo-China War had been agreed to. Men who WERE ABANDONED TO A CRUEL FATE!!

As extracted from the Bernard Fall foreword to "Modern Warfare" by Roger Trinquier:

"What followed was a horrible debacle: Thousands of partisans had to be abandoned to the enemy, since the stipulations of the Geneva cease-fire of 1954 did not permit the French to continue to supply them."

"Trinquier asserts that he had asked the United States, which had not signed the cease-fire agreement, to continue to supply the guerrillas, but that his request had been turned down.

"Although the partisans and their French cadres fought on long beyond the cease-fire, they were eventually wiped out one by one."

GCMA and their partisan units FOUGHT ON FOR YEARS AFTER THE 1954 NEGOTIATED SETTLEMENT!!

"As of August 15, 1954, fifteen enemy regular battalions, fifteen regional battalions and seventeen regional companies are now committed against them."

So hated were the GCMA and the hill tribesmen, that the Viet Minh sent overwhelming force to destroy the remnants of French military left in the area. Ruthless suppression with extermination as the goal.

coolbert.
