OV-10 Bronco.

This is coolbert:

I was surprised to read this. Courtesy of the Daily Beast.

American OV-10 Bronco AFTER A PERIOD OF TWENTY YEARS ONCE MORE TAKES TO THE AIR IN A COMBAT ROLE. Referred to as an antique and correctly so with a measure of justification.

"Why Is America Using These Antique Planes to Fight ISIS?"

"The U.S. military is testing out a dependable, rugged little vintage bomber as it battles elusive ISIS militants in Syria and Iraq."

OV-10 not existing in the American inventory for two decades. How and where these two aircraft obtained from is not clear.

OV-10 able to perform a multiplicity of missions and do so out of unimproved airfields.

BUT AS TO THE REASON WHY THE OV-10 IS BEING DEPLOYED THAT ANSWER IN THE PROVERBIAL NUTSHELL QUITE UNDERSTANDABLE.

"Davis said that the military also wanted to know if Broncos or similar planes could take over for jet fighters such as F-15s and F/A-18s, which conduct most of America’s air strikes in the Middle East but are much more expensive to buy and operate than a propeller-driven plane aircraft as OV-10s. An F-15 can cost as much as $40,000 per flight hour just for fuel and maintenance. By contrast, a Bronco can cost as little as $1,000 for an hour of flying." - - Air Force Capt. P. Bryant Davis.

Other counter-insurgency warplanes of a similar nature to include the Super Tucano or the Pucara. Super Tucano already in the American inventory!

That question of "will it fly" already being answered!

OV-10 is a MEDEVAC warplane, a troop carrier, a close-air support aircraft. Can be configured in a variety of ways.
